Walking distances from the nearest Train, Tube, Tram or Metro station.

The site shows the walking distance to every pub from its nearest Train, Tube, Tram or Metro Station.

It was developed by someone who likes travelling by train, and likes to visit pubs!

Walking distances are derived from Google Maps; for each pub, there is a link to the Google Maps directions, showing the walking distance and route.

Google Maps assumes a walking speed of about 3 miles per hour.

Use the Main Site if you know the pub you want to visit, and you want to find its nearest station.

Alternatively use the Stations page if you are at a station, and you want to find the nearest pub(s) (within a 20 minute walk).

Type a few characters in the Search box to narrow down the list of pubs displayed.

Walking routes are calculated by Google, and may not necessarily be a safe walking route, so care should be taken if the route suggests crossing or walking along a main road where there are no pavements or other safe walking route.

Click on the News page for a summary of proposed new pubs (with opening dates where known), and planned closures. If you can't find a pub, check the News page in case it has been closed.

Feedback and corrections are welcome, and will be gratefully incorporated into the site.

FAQ

Surely no one is going to walk the 31 miles from Aberdeen to The Cross Keys in Peterhead (11 hours)?

The problem is that I wanted to list every pub, so I've just given the walking distances regardless of how feasible it would be. For a while, I was tempted to limit the walking time to 20 minutes, but then why not 22 minutes or 25 minutes? So by listing all of the times, it is left up to the individual to choose their own walking limit.

But then why do you limit the walking distances to 20 minutes on the Stations page?

Because otherwise I'd have to list the distances from all of the stations (2591) plus all of the Tram and Metro Stations (another 844), plus 54 stations in Northern Ireland and 146 stations in The Republic of Ireland, to over 800 pubs; I make that nearly 3 million entries to maintain! The only possibility was to limit the walking distance to an arbitrary 20 minutes, which reduces the number of entries to a more manageable 1000 or so.

Why don't you list bus transport to the more remote pubs?

The honest answer is that I'm not really that knowledgeable about bus routes, and I personally prefer trains and trams. I would recommend the traveline.info site as it gives bus information in a clear and concise way, however you can also try looking at the google maps walking route to the pub from this site (follow the "map" link), then change the icon at the top left from "walk" to "public transport".
